Every day, Companion Animal Alliance provides shelter, medical care, second chances, and hope to thousands of animals across East Baton Rouge Parish. As the parish's open-admission animal shelter, we care for every animal that comes through our doors, regardless of age, breed, medical condition, or behavior.

CAA operates as the only open-intake animal shelter in East Baton Rouge Parish, caring for roughly 9,000 animals each year, including cats, dogs, livestock, and other domestic house pets, as well as wildlife. Our mission is to keep pets and people together whenever possible, increase spay/neuter efforts, treat animals humanely, find loving homes, and return lost pets to their owners. We serve East Baton Rouge Parish by supporting people and pets through accessible services, reunification efforts, education, and lifesaving care.
Our commitment to an open admission policy means we take in every animal surrendered to us, regardless of its health, age, breed, behavior, or our capacity for care. Additionally, as the designated municipal shelter for East Baton Rouge Parish, we are responsible for housing all stray animals found or seized in our parish. Because of this, we take steps to ensure we are doing what is best for the animals and our community. Our goal is to save every animal we can.
