Rescue Coordinator (Full Time)

Title: Rescue Transport Coordinator

Rescue Coordinator Summary

Coordinate and facilitate transfers to local and out-of-state rescue groups. Work with various departments to identify animals that can be placed in a rescue.

Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date records for all rescue groups and rescued animals.

  • Identify, research, and recommend new rescue and transport partners.

  • Maintain positive relationships with rescue and transport partners.

  • Provide excellent customer service to rescue partners, coworkers, volunteers, and shelter visitors.

  • Contact and coordinate the transfer of animals to in and out-of-state shelters. Coordinate health certificate issuance.

  • Coordinate all aspects of transport arrangements with out-of-state rescue partners. 

  • Observe and assess animal behavior and conduct dog meet-and-greets. Determine the best rescue partner based on animal behavior, breed, medical condition, etc.

  • Handle animals in a safe and humane manner. Walk and monitor dogs in play yards. Assist with holding animals for vaccines or medical tests.

  • Answer phone calls, emails, and social media responses from potential rescuers in a prompt, professional, and informative manner.

  • Call, email, and use social media to communicate with rescue groups about available shelter animals and assist rescue groups with animal selection.

  • Coordinate social media posts and email blasts in order to generate interest in hard-to-place animals.

  • Handle all customers in a polite and professional manner.

  • Coordinate and assist in loading all animals for transport via ground and air.

  • Assist with providing care for animals leaving for transport. 

  • Work closely and communicate with the transport assistant.  

  • Maintain accurate rescue and transfer databases in PetPoint.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a high school diploma and 1+ years of experience in an animal-related field.

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to read and interpret policies and procedures. 

  • Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented.

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask.

  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.

  • Must be able to administer vaccines and run medical tests needed for transport animals.

  • CAET is required within 1 year of employment 

  • Be safe and confident around all dog sizes and behaviors (i.e., fearful, aggressive, etc.)

  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized formats.

  • Ability to have a flexible schedule.

  • Ability to meet physical demands.

  • Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license. 

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED

Volunteer Coordinator (Full Time)

Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Division: Programs Department

Supervisor: Programs Director

Position Description: The Volunteer Coordinator oversees all aspects of the volunteer program, including: communications, recruitment, training, retention, and placement of volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator serves as the on-site point of contact for volunteers, supports communication between volunteers and various departments/programs, and ensures departments/programs are able to meet their volunteer needs. 


Essential Job Functions: Specific duties of the volunteer coordinator are, but are not limited to:

  • Actively recruit volunteers through the use of the website, print media, and events.

  • Research, devise, and implement effective volunteer recruitment and retention strategies. 

  • Train, mentor, and serve as the initial primary contact for all volunteers.

  • Prepare for, schedule, and provide regular volunteer orientations. 4-6 per month

  • Keep all volunteer materials and program information up to date, and provide all volunteers with appropriate materials. 

  • Develop and maintain advanced or specialized volunteer programs and training to ensure the continual growth of the volunteer program. 

  • Manage the volunteer database using Better Impact (trainings, hours, and acknowledgments)

  • Ensure all volunteers have signed the necessary forms, are reporting their hours, and remain active. 

  • Organize formal and informal volunteer appreciation efforts. 

  • Create and send out a monthly newsletter to volunteers and foster parents to keep them informed about events, programs, and general needs. 

  • Work with corporate and community groups on volunteer opportunities at CAA. 

  • Coordinate with coordinators and the management team to determine where volunteer staffing is most needed and most effective. 

  • Keep all staff up to date on changes to volunteer programs: provide staff training for volunteer program procedures as needed: ensure that staff are providing accurate information to volunteers. 

  • Uphold the shelter’s values and mission statement during interactions with the public and other staff.

  • Grow and implement new volunteer programs to support and/or reduce the work of paid staff and to reduce strain on overburdened programs. 

  • Manages the retail store inventory, follows CAA cash drawer policy, and trains staff members on the retail POS system, and maintains and organizes the storefront and retail items




Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred. 

  • Verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking; ability to effectively communicate. 

  • Interpersonal and team-building skills

  • Must be organized, resourceful, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have the ability to multitask.

Full Time Dog Caretaker

Division: Shelter Operations 

Reports To: Animal Care Supervisor and Senior Shelter Manager 

Job duties include but are not limited to: 

● Clean, sanitize and maintain kennels and animal living areas on a daily basis. ● Feed animals according to feeding protocols. 

● Ensure animals have free choice of clean water at all times 

● Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies. 

● Inform supervisor of any health issues with the animals. 

● Inform supervisor of any kennels needing repair. 

● When applicable, utilize Pet Point for all necessary communication (changing locations, updating behavior memos) 

● Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked work area 

● Maintain laundry area, food prep area, and general storage, ensuring areas are kept clean, organized, and stocked at all times 

● Perform and/or assist with humane euthanasia

Offsite Event Coordinator (Part-Time)

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate, plan and carry out off site adoption events. 

  • Provide the public with information about CAA. 

  • Counsel potential adopters about basic animal care, housing, and medical responsibilities as directed by Standard Operating Procedures and provided materials. 

  • Process off-site adoptions.

  • Transport animals to and from off-site events. 

  • Provide and supervise the care of animals at off-site events.

- The FT Animal Caretaker at Companion Animal Alliance is responsible for providing high-quality care and support to the animals within the facility. Foster Program Coordinator
