CAA’s Date-a-Dog program gives shelter dogs a refreshing break from the kennel environment while helping them connect with potential adopters. Participants can take an adoptable dog out for the day, whether it’s on a hike, a bite to eat at a dog-friendly restaurant, or a relaxing day at home.
These outings are true game-changers for a shelter dog’s behavior and health. Time outside the shelter allows for exploration, unwinding, enjoying one-on-one companionship, and showcasing their personalities. The results? Happier, healthier dogs with a greater chance of finding their new home.
How are dogs selected for dates?
Dogs are selected for the Date-a-Dog program based on their need for time outside the shelter and the length of their stay with us. All participating dogs are fully adoptable and have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.
Most Date-a-Dog participants will weigh between 25–65 pounds and represent a variety of breeds. Many are young and energetic, while others may be older dogs who simply need a relaxing break from the shelter environment. You may choose from our list of eligible dogs, or our knowledgeable staff will be happy to help match you with the perfect pup for your day.
Who can Participate?
Date-a-Dog is open to registered CAA volunteers and members of the public age 18 and older with a valid photo ID. No appointment is needed. Simply stop by CAA during our business hours, watch a brief orientation, select your dog, and head out on your date!
