Gardere Access to Care Registration
What is Access to Care?
Access to Care is a growing effort in the animal welfare world. Its main goal is to remove the barriers that prevent people from owning and caring for pets. We believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the special bond between people and animals—no matter their life situation or challenges.
At Companion Animal Alliance, Access to Care is a new program that started in 2024. This program is funded through a multi-year grant supported by PetSmart Charities and IHAC (the Institute for Human-Animal Connection). Our work focuses on listening to the community. We hold surveys, focus groups, and interviews to understand what people need and how we can improve our services. Researchers from IHAC also help us study the results and guide our efforts. Right now, we are starting our work in one neighborhood: Gardere. We chose Gardere after learning more about the resources people there have for their pets. Our team is working closely with residents to better support them and their animals.
