Get Fit with Fido is a socially distanced dog-walking program that gives volunteers a healthy, socially distanced way to help shelter pets. It’s a great way to stay fit and get outdoors. Meanwhile, shelter pets get extra socialization, enrichment and leash training – making it more likely that they’ll be adopted sooner.
Through a grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, participants are provided a pedometer to track the steps walked with each shelter pup. Volunteer walkers will also receive a designated pet leash and collar, reusable water bottle, face mask, program t-shirt and tote bag.
We encourage program participants to come as often as they would like and even walk the pets off-campus at the LSU Lakes or along the levee.
