Community Cat Coordinator (Part-Time)

TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Return. It's a method used to manage populations of feral and stray cats humanely. The process involves trapping the cats, taking them to a veterinary clinic for sterilization (spaying or neutering), vaccinating them, and then returning them to their original location. This position requires a lot of independent work and being on the road to return the cats to their locations in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Make sure all released cats are ear tipped, have no holds preventing release, and have completed records.

  • Make sure all cats are in good health prior to releasing

  • Outcome cats from PetPoint and record locations cats were released before the end of shift

  • Maintain a database of new and existing managed feral colonies in East Baton Rouge with contact information of caregivers.

  • Develop relationships with caregivers of feral cat communities. Distribute donated supplies as necessary to facilitate those relationships.

  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with staff, volunteers, and members of the community.

  • Speak to the community about the importance of TNR and advocate for the community cats.

  • Work closely with the medical staff to understand and manage any unique needs of the TNR cats in our brief care

  • Ensure that any issues with vehicle or equipment is reported to the supervisor so that it can be addressed by Facilities and Fleet Manager.

  • Maintain record keeping of all cats brought to partnering adoption agencies, including Petco and Petsense.

  • Maintain daily and weekly care of cats brought to partnering adoption agencies, including Petco and Petsense, based on agency's guidelines.

  • Handle payments and run receipts for cats adopted at partnering adoption agencies in a timely manner.

  • Providing kind, efficient, and timely client service via in-person, telephone, and email interactions

  • Maintaining an organized and neat workstation, sanitizing based on CAA cleaning protocols to control the spread of disease

  • Displaying the ability to efficiently and accurately utilize Petpoint software

  • Demonstrating the ability to read animal behavior and use safe, low stress handling techniques utilizing the Fear Free guidelines

  • Maintaining professionalism (attendance, punctuality, dress, actions, and speech) in all internal and external interactions

  • Accepting in-kind donations of food and/or supplies and ensure they are properly distributed

  • Act as Cat Caretaker when TNR duties allow, including but not limited to :

  • Clean, sanitize and maintain kennels and animal living areas when scheduled to do so.

  • Feed animals according to feeding protocols.

  • When applicable, utilize Pet Point for all necessary communication (changing locations, updating behavior memos)

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked work area

  • Maintain laundry area, food prep area, and general storage, ensuring areas are kept clean, organized, and stocked at all times

  • Perform and/or assist with humane euthanasia

Knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Follow the mission of CAA.

  • Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual.

  • Self-starter.

  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions and animal handling and behavior.

  • Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.

  • Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.

  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player.

  • Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.

  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.

  • Familiarity with basic word processing systems and medical data and management programs

Required Professional Licensing or Certifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Louisiana State Driver’s License

Must be 21 years of age or older

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.50 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 32 per week
