Description:

The condition of CAA’s shelter facility plays a vital role in shaping the public’s perception of our organization. As the Building Facilities Specialist, your responsibility is to ensure the facility is maintained in excellent condition at all times. A clean, safe, and well-functioning environment helps present a positive, professional image to the public, staff, and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the CAA facility, both inside and out, on a daily basis. This includes:

Facility Maintenance (Interior):

  • Sweep and mop high-traffic areas such as the lobby and employee entrance daily

  • Ensure all restrooms remain in excellent working condition throughout the day:

    • Keep restrooms fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap

    • Sweep and mop restroom floors

    • Clean and sanitize toilets, counters, sinks, and fixtures

    • Wipe down mirrors and monitor for cleanliness throughout the day

  • Monitor for and report or repair any facility issues including damage to walls, floors, ceilings, and lighting

  • Inspect and maintain hand sanitizer, soap, and paper towel dispensers throughout the building

  • Inspect washers and dryers regularly, ensuring lint is being removed properly by staff

  • Transport and dispose of waste materials to the landfill on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, fleet vehicles, and barn facilities to ensure ongoing operational efficiency

  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of events hosted by the organization, including those organized by the CAA

  • Support the coordination and execution of deliveries and donation pickups

  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and organization of food items in designated storage areas, in accordance with health and safety guideline

Facility Maintenance (Exterior):

  • Walk the grounds daily to identify and remove trash or debris

  • Use a leaf blower to clear sidewalks, driveways, and parking lanes

  • Blow pea gravel back into the play yard areas as needed

  • Clean building windows (interior and exterior) periodically to keep them free of dirt and smudges

Fleet Maintenance:

  • Perform regular inspections of all CAA vehicles

  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and in safe operating condition

  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the Director of Operations

  • Schedule routine service appointments and track vehicle maintenance records

Additional Expectations:

  • Always maintain a courteous and professional attitude toward staff, volunteers, and the public

  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times while performing duties

  • Report any safety hazards or urgent maintenance concerns to the Director of Operations promptly

Physical Demands:

The work is performed in the surgery unit, intake office, intake bay, kennels and surrounding areas. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 40 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects
