New shelter opens!
Homeless dogs and cats have relocated to Companion Animal Alliance's brand-new shelter, a space that is more suited for them and better for the community. On Gourrier Avenue land donated by LSU, the shelter features a classroom to train fosters and volunteers, better air quality, natural light, climate-controlled kennels, innovative veterinary equipment, expanded quarantine and treatment areas, an enhanced equine pasture, a disaster relief shelter and a dog park. CAA has boosted the save rate from 20% to 75% since it took over the parish shelter seven years ago.
With assistance from the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, CAA raised $12.75 million in private funds to build the new shelter. We thank contributors, volunteers, foster families and CAA staff.
